How do proxies work?

A proxy is a kind of gateway that pass information between your computer and the site you’re trying to visit. The proxy accesses the site instead of you, accesses the page, and forwards it to you. So the site you want to access only sees the proxy’s IP. So actually you are browsing websites in an indirect manner. School filters only see you accessing the proxy, not the site you actually want.
