How does it work?

A proxy is like a gateway that sit between the computer you’re on and the site you’re trying to visit. The proxy goes to the site you want instead of you, accesses the page, and sends it on to you. So the site you want to access only sees the proxy’s IP. So, basically you are surfing sites in an indirect manner. Internet filters only see you visiting the proxy, not the destination site.
