How do proxies work?

Proxies are like a gateway that sit between the computer you’re on and the site you want to go to. The proxy visits the site on your behalf, loads the page, and sends it off to you. So the site you want to access never sees your IP. So, basically you are browsing websites in an indirect way. School filters only see you accessing the proxy, not the site you actually want.

An alternative way to unblock Facebook at school is by making your own proxy. This is harder than using a proxy but it pays off because you can make more of them.
