How does it work?

A proxy is like a gateway that sit between your computer and the site you’re trying to visit. The proxy accesses the site you want instead of you, downloads the page, and sends it on to you. So the site you want to be on never sees your IP. So, basically you are browsing sites in an indirect way. School filters think you are just visiting the proxy, not the real site.

Another way of unblocking Twitter in school is by setting up your own web proxy. This is harder than using someone else’s proxy but it’s a lot nicer to have because you can make more of them. How to do this is not in this guide, but you can find instructions here: How to get on Twitter at school. You can even make some money from your proxy by putting ads on it.
