What do proxies do?

Proxies are like a gateway that sit between the computer you’re on and the site you’re trying to visit. The proxy accesses the site you want on your behalf, downloads the page, and sends it on to you. So the site you’re trying to visit only sees the proxy’s IP. So, basically you are browsing websites in an indirect manner. School filters only see you accessing the proxy, not the destination site.
